Prenatal Care Only (7+ visits)

What it is

Seven or more routine antenatal visits, billed as a block separate from any delivery charge. Where the four-to-six band tends to describe a partial course, this one usually describes something close to a whole pregnancy's worth of office care with the delivery billed elsewhere — a patient who moved near term, a practice that does not attend births, or a birth that happened out of area. Because the number of visits is larger, the charge is correspondingly higher than the shorter band, and it may approach a meaningful share of what a full maternity package costs.

Why it is done

• To follow the pregnancy across its whole span, with visits growing more frequent as the due date nears
• To track blood pressure, weight and the growth of the uterus over time, where the trend across many visits is what matters
• To run the routine tests that belong to particular points in the pregnancy, and to pick up problems early enough to treat them
• To manage a higher-risk pregnancy, which is normally seen more often and so accumulates more visits

What to expect

Each visit is brief and largely identical: blood pressure, weight, fundal measurement, fetal heart rate, a check for swelling, and whatever routine test is due. The first visit is the long one, with history, examination and a broad set of laboratory tests. Frequency generally steps up from monthly to fortnightly and then weekly toward the end. Anything beyond these routine checks — imaging, additional monitoring, specialist consultations — happens outside this charge.

Questions worth asking

• I have had a lot of visits — is a single flat charge for seven-or-more being applied, and does adding visits beyond that change anything?
• Because this is close to a full course of care, is the price close to the full maternity package? It is worth comparing the two directly.
• Which practice will bill for the delivery, and have both practices agreed who is billing what, so nothing is claimed twice?
• Are the ultrasounds done at these visits performed and billed by this practice, or by a separate imaging provider?
