Costs & pricing basis

Deductible

The amount you pay out of your own pocket each year before your insurance starts paying its share.

Example

Your plan has a $2,000 deductible. An MRI is billed at $1,200 — since you haven't met your deductible yet, you owe the full $1,200. A second MRI later that year, after you've paid $2,000 total, is covered by coinsurance instead.
