A federal rule (45 CFR §180) requiring every US hospital to publish a machine-readable file listing its gross charges, cash prices and every payer-negotiated rate.
Example
The rule is why this site exists: a hospital's file might be a 300MB JSON dump listing a $145–$53,000 range of prices for one X-ray across every insurance plan it accepts — public, but unreadable without normalizing it first.
